Cards and Quarters - Local Natives

Local Natives have been around for a few years. Formerly known as Cavil at Rest, and from Los Angeles, I’d known about them since they randomly were first of three on a Snow Patrol tour (with Silversun Pickups supporting, who also were unknown at the time and look at them now!).

Anyway, people are finally starting to know who they are. Their new album “Gorilla Manor” got them a score of 8.4 from Pitchfork, which I thought was surprisingly high. Critics will say this sounds like a Band of Horses and Fleet Foxes knockoff. I agree Local Natives is strikingly similar to both, but that doesn’t mean it isn’t good. They’ve done it their own way, and I think if you’re into those kinds of bands, they are worth checking out.

“Cards and Quarters” is my favorite track of the album. I got the album on Monday and have played this song 46 times! Unbelievable right? There is just something about it. It is lovely. It is also dirty.. but tastefully, in a Damien Rice kind of way:

Steal away
you and me
to a cave
made of sheets
